Wanlockhead for Action!

It was a stunning day when the Climate Hub’s Senga Greenwood wound her way up the Mennock Pass to the beautiful ‘high altitude’ village of Wanlockhead to hear about all the community based work and activities the small but unique village has been performing.
Senga was given a very warm welcome and Wanlockhead Community Centre SCIO held a Community lunch. And whilst Senga didn’t have to sing for her supper (or lunch in this case), she did give a presentation which generated a great discussion afterwards.
The Lower Lowther Men’s Shed members were present and they all took free Draughtbuster items away with them.
Draughtbusters is an initiative D&G Climate Hub has been working on since early 2024. It comprises simple tools and devices that provide almost universally accessible, simple hacks to seal up drafts and keep our homes warmer. With the high altitude climate endured by Wanlockhead residents, no wonder the Draughtbusting items proved so popular.
Councillor Carole Kilshaw and Lynda Finlay showed Senga round their community garden and Sharing Shed, which is adjacent to the Community Hall. The community garden produce and gifted food is available for all in the shed. This tight little community is clearly galvanised and scoring many sustainable goals for their village – The Hub will be back!
