Hills planted with new native forest

Galloway Forest Park in the heart of the Biosphere contains some of Europe’s most important habitats from the ancient oak woods of the Cree Valley to the wild mountains and moorlands of the Merrick Kells. Although most of the hilltops appear to be bare with little more than heather and moss there are scattered remnants of native woodland and alpine plants clinging to crags, cliffs and boulder fields which are inaccessible to hungry sheep and deer. Inspired by the montane scrub found in Europe’s mountain areas trees have been propagated from the remaining trees and planted to create a new native woodland at on Bennan Hill. Find out more here.
